Broth

  • ½ cup chicken broth Vegetable broth can be used for a vegetarian version.

  • to taste pepper
  • a dash red pepper flakes For a bit of spice.

Instructions

Sauté the Aromatics

  • In a large skillet, cook 4 strips of bacon until crispy (or heat 2 tablespoons of olive oil). Remove the bacon and crumble it, leaving the drippings or oil in the pan.

Add the Onions and Garlic

  • Toss in 1 chopped onion and 3 minced garlic cloves. Sauté until softened, about 2-3 minutes.

Stir in the Cabbage

  • Add 1 medium head of chopped cabbage to the skillet. Stir well, and cook until it starts to wilt, about 5-7 minutes.

Incorporate the Broth

  • Pour in ½ cup of chicken broth and stir to combine.

Add the Shrimp

  • Gently fold in 1 pound of shrimp, cooking until they turn pink and are opaque, about 3-5 minutes. Return the crumbled bacon to the skillet.

Season and Serve

  • Sprinkle with salt, pepper, and a dash of red pepper flakes to taste. Give it a final stir and serve.

Notes

For a different twist, try chicken or tofu instead of shrimp. Adding bell peppers, carrots, or peas for extra color and nutrition is also a great option.
