  • 1 can diced tomatoes Brings moisture and acidity to balance the flavors.
  • Salt and pepper To taste.

Preparation

  • Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease a large baking dish.
  • In a large skillet over medium heat, brown the ground beef with diced onion and minced garlic until the meat is no longer pink.
  • Drain excess fat and stir in the can of diced tomatoes, Italian seasoning, salt, and pepper. Cook for another 5 minutes.
  • Chop the cabbage into bite-sized pieces and spread half in the greased baking dish.
  • Layer half of the cooked beef mixture over the cabbage, followed by a layer of cheese. Repeat with remaining cabbage, beef, and cheese.
  • Cover the dish with foil and bake for 30 minutes.
  • Remove the foil and bake for an additional 15 minutes, or until the cheese is bubbly and golden.

Notes

Add chopped bell peppers or mushrooms for more veggies. For a crunch, top with breadcrumbs and paprika.
