  • 8 ounces Soft cheese (brie or goat cheese) Adds creaminess and pairs beautifully with salami.
  • 8 ounces Hard cheese (aged cheddar or Manchego) Provides texture and nutty flavor.
  • 1 box Crackers and sliced baguette Neutral vehicles for the salami folds.
  • 1 cup Mixed olives Provides a briny balance.
  • 1 cup Nuts (marcona almonds or walnuts) Adds crunch and warmth.
  • 1 cup Fresh fruit (grapes, figs, or apple slices) Bright, juicy accents.
  • 1 tablespoon Honey or fig jam A sweet counterpoint for savory slices.
  • 1 handful Fresh herbs (rosemary or thyme) Aromatic garnish.

Instructions

Preparation

  • Begin by selecting your salami varieties and cheeses.
  • Prepare the board by arranging crackers, baguette slices, olives, nuts, and fruit.
  • Set up small bowls for honey or jam and fresh herbs to use as garnishes.

Salami Folding Techniques

  • Fan Fold: Lay 6 to 8 slices slightly overlapping in a straight line. Fold the stack in half lengthwise and fan the ends out for a textured border.
  • Rose Fold: Take a single slice and fold it in half, then roll into a tight cone. Add additional halves around it until a full rose is formed.
  • Ribbon Fold: Fold a slice lengthwise into a long ribbon and loop it into a loose figure-eight. Tuck the ends or pin with rosemary.
  • Tulip Fold: Fold a slice into a small cup by gathering one edge and tucking in the bottom. Fill with nuts or jam.
  • Stack and Skewer: Fold two slices into quarters, stack slightly offset, and spear with a toothpick along with cheese and a grape.

Serving Suggestions

  • Pair with sparkling water, a crisp white wine, or a light-bodied red.
  • For a casual family evening, add warm bread and a bowl of soup.
  • For brunch, display mini roses near fruit and honey.

Notes

For a lighter option, swap spicy salami for turkey slices. Create vegetarian alternatives using roasted beet slices. Assemble up to 6 hours before serving and prepare delicate folds 15 to 30 minutes before guests arrive.
