Ingredients

Main Ingredients

  • 8 oz pasta (penne or rotini)
  • 1 lb ground beef Can substitute with turkey for a leaner option
  • 1 small onion, diced
  • 3 cloves garlic, minced
  • 14 oz can diced tomatoes (with juices)
  • 2 cups beef broth Or vegetable broth for a lighter flavor
  • 1 cup heavy cream Or half-and-half for a lighter version
  • 1 cup grated Parmesan cheese Plus extra for serving
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • Fresh basil or parsley for garnish

Instructions

Preparation

  • In a large pot over medium heat, add the ground beef and cook until browned, approximately 5-7 minutes. Drain any excess fat.
  • Add the diced onion and minced garlic. Sauté for another 3-4 minutes until the onions are translucent.
  • Pour in the diced tomatoes (with juices) and beef broth. Stir in the pasta, ensuring it’s completely submerged in the liquid.
  • Bring the mixture to a boil, then reduce to a simmer. Cover and cook for about 10-12 minutes, or until the pasta is al dente.
  • Lower the heat and gradually stir in the heavy cream and Parmesan cheese, mixing until the cheese is melted.
  • Season with salt and pepper to taste. Remove from heat and garnish with fresh basil or parsley before serving.

Notes

For healthier options, consider using whole wheat pasta, lean meat, or reduced-fat dairy alternatives. Make sure to stir occasionally to prevent sticking.
