  • 1 sheet 1 sheet of puff pastry (thawed) The base for your pinwheels, adding a flaky texture.
  • 4 oz 4 oz. sliced ham Use your favorite type — black forest, honey-glazed, or smoked.
  • 4 oz 4 oz. shredded cheese (Swiss or cheddar) Feel free to mix cheeses for depth!
  • 1 tsp 1 tsp Dijon mustard For a tangy punch; can be omitted if kids aren’t fans.
  • 1 ea 1 egg (beaten) This will help achieve that beautiful golden crust.
  • to taste Fresh herbs (optional) Chopped parsley or chives for added freshness.

Instructions
 

Preparation

  • Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C).
  • On a floured surface, roll out the puff pastry sheet to smooth any creases. It should be about 1/8 inch thick.
  • Brush the Dijon mustard evenly across the whole surface of the pastry.
  • Lay down slices of ham, overlapping each slice slightly, and sprinkle the shredded cheese evenly.
  • Starting from one end, tightly roll the pastry into a log.
  • Using a sharp knife, cut the rolled pastry into 1-inch thick slices.
  • Place the pinwheels on a parchment-lined baking sheet, leaving some space in between. Brush the tops with the beaten egg.

Baking

  • Bake for 15-20 minutes, or until puffed up and golden brown.
  • Let the pinwheels cool for a few minutes before serving.

Notes

For variations, consider a vegetarian version using sautéed spinach, mushrooms, or roasted bell peppers. You can also add a spicy kick or a sweet and savory twist with apple slices and cinnamon.
