Ingredients

Main ingredients

  • 1 lb ground beef You can substitute with turkey or chicken for a leaner option.
  • 1 medium onion, chopped Use shallots for a milder taste.
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced Essential for aroma.
  • 8 oz mushrooms, sliced Fresh or canned mushrooms work well.
  • 1 cup beef broth Use low-sodium to control salt levels; chicken broth is a reasonable substitute.
  • 1 cup sour cream Greek yogurt is a lighter alternative.
  • 2 tablespoons flour Cornstarch can be used as a gluten-free thickener.
  • Salt and pepper, to taste Essential for seasoning.
  • Egg noodles You can substitute with rice or mashed potatoes if preferred.

Instructions

Cooking

  • In a large skillet over medium heat, add the ground beef. Break it up with a spatula and cook for about 5 minutes, or until browned. Drain excess fat if necessary.
  • Add the chopped onion and cook until translucent, about 3 minutes. Stir in the minced garlic and sliced mushrooms, cooking for an additional 5 minutes until the mushrooms soften.
  • Sprinkle flour over the beef and vegetable mixture. Stir well to combine and cook for an additional minute. Slowly add the beef broth, stirring constantly until the mixture thickens, about 3-5 minutes.
  • Reduce the heat to low, add the sour cream, and mix until creamy. Season with salt and pepper to taste.
  • Serve the stroganoff over cooked egg noodles, allowing the sauce to seep into each noodle.

Notes

Feel free to personalize your stroganoff with optional spices like red pepper flakes or a splash of white wine.
