Ingredients

Main Ingredients

  • 1.5 cups self-rising flour Creates a tender crumb without fuss.
  • 1 cup plain Greek yogurt Thick, tangy, and high in protein.
  • 2 tablespoons honey or maple syrup Optional, for a touch of sweetness.
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder For extra lift if your flour is low on rising agents.
  • 1 pinch salt Balances flavor.
  • 1 egg beaten with 1 tablespoon water For a shiny, golden top.
  • sesame seeds, everything bagel seasoning, or coarse sea salt For topping.

Instructions

Preparation

  • Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  • In a large bowl, combine the Greek yogurt and honey. Mix until smooth and slightly glossy.
  • Add the self-rising flour and baking powder (if using). Stir until a shaggy dough forms.
  • Turn the dough onto a lightly floured surface. Knead gently for 1–2 minutes until cohesive and springy.
  • Divide the dough into 6 equal pieces. Roll each piece into a ball, then poke a hole through the center with your thumb and gently widen to form a bagel shape.

Baking

  • Place shaped bagels on the prepared sheet. Brush with egg wash and sprinkle your chosen toppings.
  • Bake for 15–18 minutes, rotating the pan halfway through, until golden brown and slightly crisp on the outside.
  • Cool on a rack for 5–10 minutes before splitting and enjoying.

Notes

Savory variations: fold in grated cheddar and chives for a cheesy bagel. For a sweet twist, stir in mini chocolate chips and dust with powdered sugar after baking.
