Ingredients

Brownie Base

  • 1 cup unsalted butter, melted Substitute: coconut oil for a dairy-free option.
  • 2 cups granulated sugar For less sweetness, reduce to 1 3/4 cups.
  • 4 large eggs, room temperature Substitute: 3 flax eggs for an egg-free twist.
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract Brightens the chocolate flavor.
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour Substitute: 1 cup gluten-free blend for a gluten-free batch.
  • 3/4 cup unsweetened cocoa powder Use Dutch-processed for a deeper chocolate profile.
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt Important to balance the sweetness.
  • 1 cup chocolate chips or chopped chocolate Substitute: dairy-free chips if needed.
  • 1/2 cup chopped nuts Optional for variety.

Instructions

Preparation

  • Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Line an 8x8-inch baking pan with parchment, leaving a slight overhang.
  • In a large bowl, whisk melted butter and sugar until smooth. Stir in eggs one at a time, beating well after each addition, then mix in vanilla.
  • Sift together flour, cocoa powder, and salt in a separate bowl. Gradually fold the dry mix into the wet batter until just combined.
  • Fold in chocolate chips or chunks and any optional mix-ins, making sure the batter is thick and glossy.

Baking

  • Pour the batter into the prepared pan, smooth the top, and bake for 25–30 minutes.
  • A toothpick inserted in the center should come out with a few moist crumbs.

Cooling

  • Let the brownies cool completely in the pan on a rack for at least 1 hour, then lift out with the parchment and cut into football-shaped or square pieces.
  • For football-themed gatherings, trim the edges and pipe simple white chocolate laces.

Notes

For an indulgent dessert, add a swirl of salted caramel before baking. Replace half the butter with mashed avocado for a healthier option.
