  • 1 lb Ground Beef Can be swapped with ground turkey for a lighter version.
  • 1 large Onion, diced Forms the aromatic base.
  • 3 cloves Garlic, minced For bold flavor; garlic powder can be used in a pinch.
  • 2 cans (15 oz) Kidney Beans, drained and rinsed Black beans can be a substitute.
  • 1 can (28 oz) Crushed Tomatoes Can substitute with diced tomatoes if preferred.
  • 2 tbsp Chili Powder Adjust to your spice level.
  • 1 tbsp Cumin Adds earthy notes.
  • Salt and Pepper, to taste Essential seasoning.
  • Optional toppings: Shredded cheese, sour cream, green onions, or cilantro. For added flavor.

Preparation

  • In a large pot, heat a splash of oil over medium heat.
  • Add the diced onion, and sauté for about 3 minutes.
  • Toss in the minced garlic and sauté for another minute.

Cooking

  • Add the ground beef to the pot and brown it, breaking it apart with a spoon.
  • Once browned, stir in the chili powder, cumin, salt, and pepper.
  • Pour in the crushed tomatoes and add the kidney beans, stirring everything together.
  • Bring to a gentle simmer and cover the pot.
  • Let the chili simmer for 20-25 minutes, stirring occasionally.
  • Once thickened, taste and adjust seasoning as needed.
  • Serve hot with your favorite toppings.

Notes

This chili is versatile; feel free to add vegetables or change the meat. Cooking a day ahead can enhance flavors.
