Cooking Instructions

  • Brown the Meat: In a large pot over medium heat, add the ground beef (or turkey). Cook until browned, about 5-7 minutes, breaking it apart as it cooks.
  • Sauté the Vegetables: Once the meat is fully cooked, drain any excess fat. Add the chopped onions and bell pepper to the pot. Cook for 5 minutes, stirring occasionally.
  • Add Garlic and Spices: Stir in the minced garlic, chili powder, cumin, salt, and pepper. Cook for 1-2 minutes until the spices are fragrant.
  • Incorporate Tomatoes and Beans: Pour in the diced tomatoes (with juice) and kidney beans. Stir well to combine all ingredients.
  • Simmer to Perfection: Bring the chili to a gentle simmer. Reduce heat to low and let it cook uncovered for 15-20 minutes.
  • Final Touches: Taste the chili and adjust seasoning, adding more salt or chili powder if desired.
  • Serve and Enjoy: Ladle into bowls and top with your favorite garnishes.

Notes

Leftovers store beautifully in the fridge for up to 4 days or can be frozen for up to 3 months. Allow the chili to sit for at least 30 minutes before serving for improved flavor. Garnish with fresh toppings like cilantro or green onions.
