Ingredients

For the Sliders

  • 12 pieces soft dinner rolls (slider buns) Choose whole-wheat for a healthier option.
  • 12 ounces thinly sliced Swiss cheese Melts beautifully for that ooey-gooey pull.
  • 12 ounces thinly sliced ham Deli-style or leftover baked ham both work.

For the Topping

  • 4 tablespoons unsalted butter, melted Adds richness and crisp tops.
  • 2 tablespoons Dijon mustard A tangy lift; substitute yellow mustard if preferred.
  • 2 tablespoons mayonnaise For a silky base; Greek yogurt works as a healthier swap.
  • 1 tablespoon poppy seeds (optional) Classic topping that adds texture.
  • 1 teaspoon onion powder Deepens savory flavor.
  • 1 teaspoon honey (optional) For a subtle sweet contrast.

Instructions

Preparation

  • Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C).
  • Slice the dinner rolls horizontally in half, keeping them attached if you like pull-apart sliders. Place the bottom halves in a greased 9x13-inch baking dish.
  • Layer ham evenly over the bottom buns, folding slices slightly for a pillowy rise. Then layer Swiss cheese on top of the ham.
  • Place the top halves of the rolls on the cheese to form a sandwich.
  • In a small bowl, whisk melted butter, Dijon mustard, mayonnaise, onion powder, and honey (if using). Brush this mixture generously over the tops of the rolls.
  • Sprinkle poppy seeds evenly across the tops.

Baking

  • Cover the dish with foil and bake for 12 minutes.
  • Remove the foil and bake for an additional 3–6 minutes until the tops are golden and cheese is melty.
  • Let cool for a couple of minutes, then pull apart and serve warm.

Notes

To make them spicy, add a thin spread of horseradish or chipotle mayo. For a festive twist, add pineapple and use Monterey Jack cheese. You can also make them vegetarian with smoked tempeh so that it fits any occasion.
