  • 4 pieces boneless, skinless chicken breasts Trimmed and patted dry. Chicken thighs can be used for juicier results.
  • 1 cup sour cream Use Greek yogurt for a lighter option.
  • 1 cup mayonnaise Can substitute with plain yogurt plus a tablespoon of olive oil.
  • 1 cup shredded cheddar cheese Or a blend of cheddar and mozzarella.
  • 1/2 cup grated Parmesan Nutritional yeast can be used for a dairy-free version.
  • 1 can cream of chicken soup Homemade cream sauce can be used.
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1 teaspoon onion powder
  • 1 teaspoon paprika Smoked paprika adds depth.
  • 1 teaspoon dried thyme Fresh herbs can be used as well.
  • Salt and pepper To taste.
  • 1 cup breadcrumbs or crushed crackers Use gluten-free crumbs as needed.
  • 2 tablespoons melted butter Olive oil can be used for dairy-free options.
  • Lemon wedges and chopped parsley Optional, but brighten every bite.

Instructions
 

Preparation

  • Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C). Light a candle if you want to amp up the cozy vibes.
  • Season the chicken breasts with salt, pepper, and half the garlic and onion powder. Sear in a hot skillet for 2 minutes per side until just golden.
  • In a bowl, whisk together sour cream, mayonnaise, cream of chicken soup, remaining garlic and onion powder, paprika, and thyme until smooth. Taste and adjust salt and pepper.
  • Place seared chicken breasts in a lightly greased baking dish. Spoon the creamy mixture evenly over each breast.
  • Sprinkle shredded cheddar and grated Parmesan over the top.
  • Mix breadcrumbs or crushed crackers with melted butter, then scatter it across the cheese layer.

Baking

  • Bake uncovered for 35–40 minutes, until the chicken registers 165°F (74°C) and the top is golden and bubbling.
  • Let the dish rest for 5 minutes before serving. Squeeze a little lemon over the top and finish with chopped parsley.

Notes

For variations, add vegetables, a spicy twist, or make it gluten-free or low-carb. Encourage customizing based on personal taste.
