Preparation

  • In a large skillet over medium heat, cook the ground beef until browned (about 5-7 minutes).
  • Add the chopped onion and minced garlic to the skillet. Sauté for 2-3 minutes until the onions are translucent and fragrant.
  • Toss in the sliced mushrooms and cook for another 5 minutes, until tender.
  • Stir in the beef broth, Worcestershire sauce, thyme, salt, and pepper.
  • Lower the heat and mix in the sour cream, causing the sauce to thicken.
  • Meanwhile, cook the egg noodles according to package instructions until al dente.
  • Gently mix the drained noodles into the beef and mushroom mixture.
  • Pour the mixture into a greased baking dish and top with shredded cheese.
  • Bake in a preheated oven at 350°F (175°C) for about 15 minutes, until the cheese is melted and bubbly.
  • Let it sit for a few minutes before serving.

Notes

For healthier options, swap ground beef for ground turkey or lean chicken. You can incorporate seasonal veggies or add a splash of white wine for extra flavor. Sprinkle fresh herbs for a vibrant finish.
