  • 3 cups Marinara Sauce Homemade or store-bought works perfectly.
  • 15 ounces Ricotta Cheese Can be replaced with cottage cheese for a lighter option.
  • 2 cups Mozzarella Cheese, shredded Use shredded or fresh.
  • 1/2 cup Parmesan Cheese, grated Nutritional yeast is a dairy-free alternative.
  • 1 medium Onion, chopped Feel free to use shallots for a milder flavor.
  • 2 cloves Garlic, minced
  • 1 tablespoon Italian Seasoning Can substitute with a mix of oregano, basil, and thyme.

Instructions

Preparation

  • Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).
  • In a large skillet over medium heat, brown the ground beef, adding chopped onions and minced garlic until aromatic and translucent.
  • Pour in the marinara sauce and bring to a simmer, allowing the flavors to meld for about 5 minutes.
  • In a mixing bowl, combine ricotta cheese, half of the mozzarella, Italian seasoning, and a pinch of salt and pepper.

Assembly

  • In a baking dish, spread a layer of meat sauce, followed by a layer of lasagna noodles.
  • Spread half of the cheese mixture over the noodles and then a layer of sauce.
  • Repeat this pattern, ending with sauce on top.
  • Sprinkle remaining mozzarella and parmesan cheese over the final layer.

Baking

  • Cover with aluminum foil and bake for 25 minutes.
  • Remove the foil and bake for an additional 5-10 minutes until the cheese is bubbling and golden.
  • Let it sit for 10 minutes before slicing.

Notes

For a veggie twist, add layers of roasted zucchini or spinach. For a spicy kick, sprinkle red pepper flakes into the meat sauce. If desired, mix ricotta with bacon bits for a smokier flavor.
