Ingredients

Main Ingredients

  • 2 large large onions Sweet onions work beautifully for caramelizing, providing a sweet base.
  • 4 strips strips of bacon Go for a thick cut for added crunch and richness.
  • 1 cup sour cream Adds a creamy texture; consider Greek yogurt as a healthier alternative.
  • 1 cup mayonnaise This gives the dip its silky consistency — be sure to use full-fat for the best flavor.
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder For that extra depth of flavor.
  • to taste Salt and pepper Essential for bringing out all the wonderful flavors.

Instructions

Preparation

  • In a large skillet over medium heat, cook the bacon until it’s crispy. Remove it from the pan and allow it to drain on paper towels. Once cooled, crumble it into pieces.
  • In the same skillet, add sliced onions (the residual bacon fat will be perfect for flavor). Cook on low heat for about 15 minutes, stirring occasionally, until the onions turn golden brown and sweetly fragrant.
  • In a mixing bowl, combine the caramelized onions, crumbled bacon, sour cream, mayonnaise, garlic powder, salt, and pepper. Mix well until everything is fully incorporated.
  • For optimal flavor, let the dip chill in the refrigerator for at least an hour before serving.
  • Serve the dip with your favorite chips, toasted baguette slices, or vegetable sticks.

Notes

Consider upgrading ingredients by adding grated cheese, like Gruyere, for an indulgent twist. For fall, roasted garlic can add depth. If lighter, swap mayonnaise for Greek yogurt.
