Main Ingredients

  • 4 medium medium apples (Granny Smith or Honeycrisp) Choose firm apples that will hold their shape.
  • 1/4 cup unsalted butter For that rich, creamy flavor.
  • 1/2 cup brown sugar This adds a deep sweetness; dark brown sugar intensifies the flavor.
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon A warm spice that elevates the dish.
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract Great for adding depth; consider almond extract as a substitution for a unique twist.
  • 1 pinch salt Enhances sweetness, balancing out the flavors.

Optional Toppings

  • Chopped nuts For additional crunch and texture.
  • Whipped cream A delightful addition for tropical indulgence.
  • Drizzle of caramel sauce Enhances sweetness and decadence.

Instructions

Preparation

  • Peel, core, and slice your apples into even wedges to ensure they cook uniformly.
  • In a large skillet over medium heat, add the unsalted butter and let it melt completely.

Cooking

  • Toss the apple wedges into the melted butter, stirring gently to coat each piece.
  • Gradually add the brown sugar and stir until combined, allowing the sugar to dissolve.
  • Add the ground cinnamon and pinch of salt, stirring well as the apples begin to caramelize, turning golden and soft.
  • After about 10 minutes, stir in the vanilla extract and let the mixture simmer for an additional 5-10 minutes.
  • Remove from heat and serve warm, perfect on their own or as a topping for ice cream or yogurt.

Notes
