  • 6 large large eggs Fresh, organic eggs add the best flavor and nutrients.
  • 2 cups cups of milk Whole milk adds creaminess; almond milk or skim milk can work too.
  • 5 cups cups of cubed bread Day-old bread is perfect; brioche or sourdough can be used.
  • 1 cup cup of shredded cheese Cheddar works well; mozzarella or pepper jack for a kick.
  • 1 teaspoon teaspoon of salt and pepper Always season to taste!
  • to taste Optional herbs and spices Add chives, parsley, or cayenne for extra flavor.

Instructions
 

Preparation

  • Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C).
  • Cook the bacon in a large skillet over medium heat until crispy, then drain on paper towels and crumble into bite-sized pieces.
  • In a large bowl, whisk together the eggs and milk until well combined.
  • Add the bread cubes, crumbled bacon, cheese, salt, and pepper to the bowl, folding gently to combine.
  • Pour the mixture into a greased 9×13-inch baking dish, spreading it out evenly.

Baking

  • Bake in the preheated oven for 40 to 45 minutes, or until the top is golden brown and a knife inserted comes out clean.

Serving

  • Let it cool for about 10 minutes before slicing and serving.

Notes

This dish is perfect for meal prep; keep leftovers in an airtight container for up to 5 days. You can freeze portions for up to 3 months and reheat in the oven or microwave.
