  • 12 ounces cheese tortellini (fresh or frozen) If using frozen, no need to thaw!
  • 2 cups marinara sauce Feel free to use homemade or quality store-bought.
  • 1 cup ricotta cheese Swap with cottage cheese for a different texture.
  • 2 cups shredded mozzarella cheese You can mix in some provolone for an extra kick.
  • 1/2 cup grated Parmesan cheese Because cheese makes everything better!
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil Or use butter for a richer flavor.
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced Add more if you love garlic.
  • 1 teaspoon dried Italian herbs This blend will elevate the dish.
  • to taste salt and pepper
  • Fresh basil for garnish Optional, but it adds a fresh touch.

Instructions
 

Preparation

  • Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).
  • In a large pot of salted boiling water, cook the tortellini according to package instructions until al dente, usually 3-5 minutes. Drain and set aside.
  • In a skillet, heat the olive oil over medium heat, then add the minced garlic. Sauté until fragrant, about 1-2 minutes.
  • In a large mixing bowl, combine the cooked tortellini, marinara sauce, ricotta cheese, sautéed garlic, dried herbs, salt, and pepper. Mix gently.

Assembly and Baking

  • Spread half of the tortellini mixture in a greased 9x13-inch baking dish. Top with half of the mozzarella and Parmesan cheeses.
  • Add the remaining tortellini mixture on top, followed by the rest of the mozzarella and Parmesan.
  • Cover with aluminum foil and bake for 20 minutes. Remove the foil and bake for an additional 5-10 minutes until the cheese is bubbly and golden brown.
  • Once baked, remove from the oven and let sit for a few moments before serving. Garnish with fresh basil.

Notes

For variations, consider adding sautéed vegetables, incorporating protein like chicken or sausage, or spicing it up with red pepper flakes.
