Preparation

  • Peel and core the apples. Chop them into bite-sized pieces.

Cooking

  • In a medium-sized pot, combine apples, brown sugar, cinnamon, nutmeg, lemon juice, and water. Stir until the apples are evenly coated.
  • Place the pot over medium heat and cover with a lid.
  • Let the apples simmer for about 15 minutes, stirring occasionally.
  • Taste your compote and adjust sweetness or spices as desired.
  • Once it reaches your preferred consistency, remove it from the heat and let it cool before serving.

Notes

Add a handful of dried cranberries or chopped walnuts for a festive version. Freeze leftovers in airtight containers for future use.
