  • 2 cups water or milk Dairy or plant-based alternatives like almond milk can be used for added creaminess.
  • 1 medium apple, diced Using Granny Smith adds a tart bite, but any apple variety works.
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon Add a sprinkle of nutmeg for an extra kick.

Cooking Instructions

  • In a medium saucepan, bring 2 cups of water or milk to a gentle boil over medium heat.
  • Stir in 1 cup of rolled oats and a pinch of salt. Reduce the heat to low and let the oats simmer for 5-7 minutes, stirring occasionally.
  • As the oats start to thicken, add in the diced apple, 1 teaspoon of ground cinnamon, and sweetener of choice (1 tablespoon of brown sugar or honey).
  • Continue to cook for another 5 minutes, allowing the apples to soften and the mixture to reach your desired consistency.
  • Once thick, remove from heat and let it sit for a minute. Divide the oatmeal into bowls and add your favorite toppings.

Notes

Consider for healthy swaps: mixing in a spoonful of nut butter or Greek yogurt. For seasonal twists, use pears or berries instead of apples. Stir in cream or coconut milk for a richer treat.
