For the sauce

  • 1/4 cup honey adds glossy sweetness and helps caramelize the shrimp.
  • 2 tablespoons soy sauce use low sodium for a gentler salt profile.
  • 1 tablespoon rice vinegar balances the honey with bright acidity.
  • 1/2 teaspoon red pepper flakes optional, for a warm kiss of heat.

For finishing

  • 2 green onions thinly sliced for freshness and color.
  • 1 tablespoon butter finishes the sauce with silkiness (optional).

Preparation

  • Pat the shrimp dry with paper towels.
  • Heat the olive oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat until shimmering.
  • Carefully add the shrimp in a single layer. Cook for 1 to 2 minutes per side until pink and just opaque.
  • Remove shrimp to a plate.
  • Lower the heat to medium and add garlic to the skillet. Stir for about 30 seconds until fragrant.

Cooking

  • Pour in the honey, soy sauce, and rice vinegar. Stir and let the sauce bubble and thicken for about a minute.
  • Add red pepper flakes if using.
  • Return the shrimp to the pan and toss to coat.
  • Add butter if using, and stir until the sauce is glossy.
  • Finish with sliced green onions and serve immediately.
