Ingredients

For the dough

  • 2 cups all-purpose flour Substitute with whole wheat for a healthier option.
  • 2 tablespoons granulated sugar
  • 1 tablespoon baking powder
  • ½ teaspoon salt
  • ½ cup milk Almond milk works too!
  • 2 tablespoons unsalted butter, melted
  • 1 large egg

For the filling

  • 1 tablespoon ground cinnamon
  • ¼ cup packed brown sugar Light or dark, your choice.
  • 2 tablespoons unsalted butter, softened

For the icing (optional)

  • 1 cup powdered sugar
  • 2 tablespoons milk
  • ½ teaspoon vanilla extract

Instructions

Preparation of Dough

  • In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the all-purpose flour, sugar, baking powder, and salt until well combined.
  • In a separate bowl, mix the milk, melted butter, and egg. Pour this mixture into the dry ingredients. Stir until a sticky dough forms.
  • Tip: If the dough is too sticky, gradually add a little more flour until it’s manageable.

Rolling Out the Dough

  • On a lightly floured surface, gently knead the dough for about 1 minute until smooth (avoid over-kneading).
  • Roll the dough into a rectangle, approximately 12×8 inches.

Adding the Filling

  • Spread the softened butter across the dough and sprinkle the brown sugar and cinnamon mixture generously.
  • Tip: Make sure to cover the entire surface to get a good distribution of flavor.

Rolling and Slicing

  • Starting from one edge, roll the dough tightly into a log shape. Slice the log into 1-inch thick rolls.
  • Tip: Use a sharp knife or dental floss for clean cuts.

Baking the Rolls

  • Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C). Place the rolls in a greased baking dish. Let them rest for about 10 minutes while the oven warms up.
  • Bake for 20-25 minutes until golden brown.

Preparing the Icing

  • While the rolls bake, whisk together powdered sugar, milk, and vanilla extract until smooth.
  • Once the rolls cool slightly, drizzle the icing generously over the top.
